Dr. Valeria De Rosa was born in San Daniele del Friuli (Italy) in 1994. She graduated in Biotechnology at the University of Udine, specializing on plant applications. During her undergraduate studies, she investigated hormonal signalling pathways in plant-pathogen interactions at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology in Jena (Germany).
Her research interests expanded toward tree physiology during her doctoral studies, leading to her PhD in 2022 with a thesis on the molecular regulation of budbreak and dormancy progression in grapevine. Up to 2025, she continued her work in Udine with the development of a cross-population to implement genomic selection approaches for the breeding of climate-smart grapevines.
Currently, she works as a post-doctoral researcher at the Center Agriculture Food Environment (C3A) of the University of Trento, in San Michele all’Adige. Her current research focuses on the characterization of plant responses to ultraviolet radiation, specifically UV-C application in grapevine, apple, and olive trees. She is actively involved in the Life APOLLO project, which aims to transfer UV-C technology to the orchard.
