Professor Fabrizio Mazzetto

MSc in Agricultural Sciences (1983) and PhD in Agricultural Engineering (1990), both at University of Milan (Italy). Now Full Professor of Farm Machinery and Mechanisation (2010-present) at the Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences of the Free University of Bolzano (UNIBZ). 

Director of the Competence Centre for Mountain Innovation Ecosystems (2022-present), within the research activities of the Consortium iNEST (PNRR-MUR, Next Generation EU Program). Voice Deaon for Research at the Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Sciences (2025-present).

His research activities have focused on topics related to: 

  • agricultural mechanics and mechanisation, including the development of innovative prototypes of agricultural machinery such as stripper headers forcereal harvesting and small articulated tractors for steep lands, 
  • the application of information technology for the digital management of business processes, 
  • smart agriculture and automation, 
  • energy applications in the rural sector, e) safety, ergonomy and certification of farm machinery.


Past FAO-UNDP energy consultant and coordinator of several national/international research projects. Past President of the VII Section AIIA (Italian Association of Agricultural Engineering, 2017-2022) dealing with the digitalization of agricultural, forestry and food sectors.
At present he even covers the following positions: 

  1. Full Ordinary Member of the Accademia dei Georgofili in Florence; 
  2. Coordinator of the Agri-Forestry Innovations Laboratory of UNIBZ within the framework of the settlement activities of the Bolzano NOI-Technology Park; 
  3. Full Member of the Club of Bologna (Worldwide Strategies for the Development of Agricultural Mechanisation, supported by FEDERUNACOMA) (2024-present).
