It’s blossom time in South Tyrol, but two weeks earlier than usual. Interpoma – the international trade show devoted to the cultivation, storage and marketing of apples, in program from 15 to 17 November 2012 in Bolzano – considers the matter with two experts.

Interpoma 2012, the international trade fair devoted to the cultivation, storage and marketing of apples, to be held in Bolzano from 15 to 17 November 2012, will this year have to deal with a decidedly atypical year as far as South Tyrolean apples go. On the one hand, admittedly, it is too soon to predict final harvest and production figures, given the numerous unforeseeable variables that lie between now and that moment, but nevertheless, it is undeniably an important fact that in this moment, roughly two weeks ahead of time, the area’s apple trees are in blossom.
 
Kurth Werth, expert on fruit growing and organiser of Interpoma’s “The Apple in the World” congress, has no doubts: “What’s happening in South Tyrol is an exceptional event – he emphasizes – Blossoming has begun two weeks earlier on account of the particularly high temperatures at the beginning of March. This situation could well cause problems, since we are also experiencing a water shortage compared to the norm, but it’s too soon to make predictions. We can certainly make one incontestable observation: many scientists insist that climates are changing, and in South Tyrol we can see that for ourselves. Compared to the 1980s, our average temperatures have risen by 2 degrees centigrade. The positive thing is that the bees are flying and so we have good conditions for pollination.”

Wolfgang Drahorad, a collaborator with Bolzano University’s Faculty of Agrarian Science and Technology, confirms: “Compared to the multiannual average, apple trees in South Tyrol are blossoming decidedly early this year. Normally this happens around the 8th or 10th of April, but this year it began two weeks sooner. It could be dangerous, because of the risk of frost, which can’t be excluded until around the 10th to 15th of May. Still, the threat can be neutralized through good anti-frost irrigation, which the vast majority of apple growers are capable of carrying out.”

The surface area devoted to apple growing in South Tyrol now extends to over 18,500 hectares, with a total annual crop of some 950,000 tons of apples. No wonder this is the region that hosts the biennial trade fair dedicated to apples! The last edition, in 2010, notched up over 14,000 visitors from 58 different countries, thus confirming Interpoma as the most important event for the global apple sector. The 2012 edition will also feature a packed calendar of collateral events, including the International Congress titled “The Apple in the World”. This congress will deal with a number of subjects: a first session will be devoted to production, marketing and consumption, and subsequently the focus will shift to replanting diseases and assessments of new developments in research and genetic improvements.

Interpoma 2012 will open its doors from the 15th to the 17th of November in the pavilions of Fiera Bolzano (South Tyrol, Italy).

Excitement mounts among professionals and experts in the apple sector as they await Interpoma 2012, the 8th international exhibition of apple cultivation, storage and marketing, due to take place on 15-17 November at Fiera Bolzano (South Tyrol/Italy).
This edition of the biennial event will again welcome the international "The Apple in the World" congress, a landmark event for the sector coordinated by apple expert Kurt Werth. On each of the three days of the Interpoma show, this event will host professionals and observers from all over Europe and the United States.
The first session will be held on Thursday 15 November and will look at apple cultivation and commercialization. The congress will open with the Apple World Report 2012, presented by Desmond O’Rourke from Belrose Inc. and  providing a general overview of global trends in apple production and sales. The Report will be followed by a round table on the economic situation of apple producers and on the commercial organizations in Europe's biggest apple-producing regions. In the afternoon, Eufrin will organize a convention with the general theme: “Research to benefit the European fruit industry - 20 years of European Fruit Research Institutes Network (EUFRIN)”, with the participation of representatives of scientists of different European Research Stations from applied fruit research.
Friday 16 November will be an equally interesting day, dedicated to soil fatigue and replanting diseases. Exponents from Italian, German and American universities and research institutes will address this issue from many different angles, from fungi analysis as an indication of soil health to how roots respond to crop residues, as well as looking at rootstocks that are resistant to replanting diseases; the day will close with the definition of a prototype of a new machine to exchange the soil in the planting row.
The congress will end on Saturday 17 November with a special session on research and innovation, with papers addressing a variety of issues, from variety innovation to the beneficial properties of apples.  Many issues will be covered, such as Cisgenesis, apples with red pulp, new apple breeding methods, fire blight resistant rootstocks and the beneficial properties of apples due to the power of flavonoids.

Ce rendez-vous majeur pour les professionnels de la filière aura lieu du 15 au 17 novembre 2012

Les opérateurs et les spécialistes du secteur attendent avec impatience Interpoma 2012, la huitième Foire internationale de la culture, la conservation et la commercialisation des pommes qui se tiendra du 15 au 17 novembre à Fiera Bolzano.
La biennale organise son rendez-vous habituel avec le Congrès international "La pomme dans le monde", un évènement de référence pour le secteur coordonné par le spécialiste Kurt Werth. Cette rencontre accueillera pendant les trois jours d'Interpoma des professionnels et des observateurs venus de toute l'Europe et des États-Unis.
La première session se déroulera le jeudi 15 novembre et sera consacrée à la culture et à la commercialisation des pommes. Le congrès s'ouvrira sur l’Apple World Report 2012 sous la responsabilité de Desmond O’Rourke, américain, de Belrose Inc. L'intervention évoquera le contexte général et les tendances de la production et de la vente des pommes dans le monde. Puis une table ronde sera dédiée à l'analyse de la situation économique des entreprises de la filière et à l'organisation des structures commerciales dans les principales régions productrices de pommes en Europe. Dans l’après-midi se déroulera une conférence organisée par Eufrin "La recherche au service de la filière fruitière européenne: les 20 ans du European Fruit Research Institutes Network (Eufrin) ”. Au rendez-vous vont participer des scientifiques de différents Instituts Européens de recherche fruitière appliquée.
Une autre journée importante, le vendredi 16 novembre, sera consacrée à l'épuisement des sols et aux maladies de replantation. Des intervenants des universités et des centres de recherche italiens, allemands et américains aborderont ce thème sous des angles différents : analyse des champignons comme indicateurs de la santé du terrain, réponse des racines aux résidus de culture, porte-greffes résistants aux maladies de replantation, description d'un nouveau prototype de machine permettant de changer la terre d'une rangée d'arbres, etc.
Le Congrès se terminera le samedi 17 novembre par une session dédiée à la recherche et à l'innovation, avec des interventions sur des thèmes différents : du renouvellement des variétés à l'intérêt des pommes pour la santé. Les sujets traités seront nombreux, entre autres la cisgénèse, les variétés à pulpe rouge, les nouvelles méthodes d'amélioration génétique des variétés, les porte-greffes résistants au Feu bactérien, l'intérêt des pommes pour la santé dérivant de sa richesse en flavonoïdes.

Entre los profesionales y los expertos del sector de la manzana hay gran expectación por Interpoma 2012, la octava Feria internacional dedicada al cultivo, la conservación y la comercialización de la manzana, que se celebrará del 15 al 17 de noviembre en el recinto ferial de Bolzano.
Durante este evento bienal no faltará el congreso internacional “La manzana en el mundo”, todo un referente para el sector, que cuenta con la coordinación del experto Kurt Werth. A las tres jornadas de Interpoma acudirán profesionales y observadores del sector, procedentes de toda Europa y Estados Unidos.
La primera sesión se desarrollará el 15 de noviembre y se centrará en los temas del cultivo y la comercialización de la manzana. El congreso se abrirá con el informe Apple World Report 2012, a cargo del estadounidense Desmond O’Rourke, de Belrose Inc. En su intervención perfilará el cuadro general de las tendencias de producción y venta de las manzanas en el mundo. Se celebrará después una mesa redonda dedicada al análisis de la situación económica de las explotaciones y la organización de las estructuras comerciales en las mayores regiones productoras de Europa. Por la tarde se desarrollará la reunión organizada por Eufrin titulada "La investigación al servicio del sector frutícolo europeo: los 20 años del European Fruit Research Institutes Network (Eufrin) ”. Al evento participarán científicos de distintos Institutos Europeos de investigación frutícola aplicada.
Igualmente interesante será la jornada del 16 de noviembre, que se dedicará al tema del cansancio del suelo y las enfermedades de replantación. Expertos de universidades y centros de investigación italianos, alemanes y americanos abordarán este tema en sus distintos aspectos: del análisis de los hongos como indicadores de la salud del suelo, a la respuesta de las raíces a los residuos de cultivos, pasando por los portainjertos resistentes a las enfermedades de replantación, hasta llegar a la descripción de un nuevo prototipo de máquina para el intercambio de la tierra en la fila de plantación.
El congreso finalizará el 17 de noviembre con una sesión dedicada a investigación e innovación, con intervenciones que abordarán la renovación de variedades y las propiedades beneficiosas de la manzana. Serán numerosos los temas a tratar, por ejemplo la cisgénesis, las variedades de pulpa roja, los nuevos métodos en la mejora genética de variedades, los portainjertos resistentes al fuego bacteriano, así como las propiedades beneficiosas de la manzana, derivadas de su contenido de flavonoides.

From 15 to 17 November 2012 the benchmark event for the apple sector returns to Fiera Bolzano, aiming to top the previous edition’s figures of 354 exhibitors and 14,200 visitors 

 Apple growing statistics are back on the rise, following last season’s drop:  forecasts presented by Prognosfruit – the annual congress focused on trends in apple and pear production – point to a total volume of roughly 10.2 million tons of apples for the 2011-2012 season in Europe, as well as improvements in quality. An encouraging prospect, in other words, especially considering that consumption trends are being favoured by current price stability. One of the main apple growing areas to feature in this scenario will undoubtedly be South Tyrol, where an apple harvest of over 1.1 million tons is forecast (source: Assomela/CSO).
From 15 to 17 November, the South Tyrol area, whose 18,000 hectares of apple trees constitute the cradle of European apple growing, will be playing host to the eighth edition of Interpoma, the biennial international trade fair dedicated to apple growing, storage and marketing.
For three days the pavilions of Fiera Bolzano will stage what remains a uniquely specialised event devoted exclusively to the apple sector, and which offers professional sector operators an unrivalled opportunity to monitor production and market trends and to update themselves on the latest novelties connected with this star player of the fresh produce market.
The presence of hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors will also offer plenty of business opportunities. Suffice it to say that in the last edition, in 2010, 354 companies from 18 different nations were present along with over 14,200 visitors from 58 different countries, an increase of 22% compared to 2008.
This year’s edition will again include the International apple congress, organised by the internationally renowned expert Kurt Werth in collaboration with the various South Tyrolean apple growing organisations: a three day forum on the most pressing current subjects concerning the sector, which in 2010 featured a series of top flight speakers and a public of almost 900 people. At this moment a whole range of meetings, round table discussions and scientific and technical forums are being organised: the kind of high profile events that for more than 15 years have made Interpoma a benchmark event in the international apple sector.

En la Feria de Bolzano del 15 al 17 de noviembre de 2012 volverá la cita fundamental dedicada al mundo de la manzana, que en su pasada edición registró 354 expositores y más de 14.200 visitantes

La producción de manzanas se está recuperando después del descenso de la temporada pasada: las previsiones de Prognosfruit -el congreso anual que presenta la valoración de la producción de peras y manzanas- anuncian para 2011/2012 un volumen total de aproximadamente 10,2 millones de toneladas de manzanas en Europa, con una mejora de la calidad. Este escenario induce al optimismo, también gracias a una dinámica de los consumos favorecida por la estabilidad de los precios. Entre las áreas de producción que protagonizan este escenario seguramente está la región de Alto Adige, donde se prevé una cosecha de más de 1,1 millones de toneladas (fuente: Assomela/CSO).
Precisamente en Alto Adige, cuna del cultivo de manzana en Europa con sus 18.000 hectáreas de superficie, se celebrará del 15 al 17 de noviembre de 2012 la octava edición de Interpoma, la feria internacional bienal dedicada al cultivo, la conservación y la comercialización de la manzana.
Durante tres días, en los pabellones de la Feria de Bolzano se desarrollará una cita única, íntegramente dedicada al sector de la manzana. Los profesionales podrán analizar el estado de la producción y los mercados y conocer las novedades más interesantes acerca de uno de los principales productos del mercado hortofrutícola.
Serán numerosas también las oportunidades comerciales, gracias a la presencia de centenares de expositores y miles de visitantes. En efecto, en la anterior edición, celebrada en 2010, estuvieron presentes 354 empresas, procedentes de 18 países y acudieron más de 14.200 visitantes, de 58 países distintos, con un aumento del 22% respecto a 2008.
En esta edición tampoco faltará la cita con el congreso internacional dedicado a la manzana, organizado por el experto de fama internacional Kurt Werth en colaboración con las organizaciones frutícolas de Alto Adige: tres días para analizar los temas más candentes relacionados con la manzana. En 2010 participaron ponentes de primera plana y casi 900 asistentes y precisamente en estas semanas se está preparando un amplio programa con congresos, mesas redondas y reuniones científicas: eventos de alto nivel, por los que desde hace más de 15 años Interpoma es el punto de referencia internacional para el sector de la manzana.

La production de pommes reprend après le fléchissement de la dernière saison : Prognosfruit - congrès annuel où sont présentées les prévisions concernant la production de pommes et de poires - annonce pour 2011/2012 un volume total de 10,2 millions de tonnes de pommes en Europe, avec une qualité à la hausse. Cette tendance incite à l’optimisme d’autant plus que la consommation est soutenue par la stabilité des prix. Parmi les zones de production concernées par ces prévisions se trouve évidemment le Haut-Adige, avec une récolte attendue de 1,1 millions de tonnes (source : Assomela/CSO ).
Et c’est justement le Haut Adige, berceau de la culture des pommes en Europe avec ses 18 000 hectares de surfaces cultivées, qui accueillera du 15 au 17 novembre 2012, la huitième édition d’Interpoma, la foire biennale internationale consacrée à la culture, la conservation et la commercialisation des pommes.
Pendant trois jours, les pavillons de Fiera Bolzano seront le cadre de ce rendez-vous unique, entièrement consacré au secteur. Pour les professionnels, c’est l’occasion d’évaluer la production et la demande et de découvrir les nouveautés les plus intéressantes touchant ce produit phare pour le marché des fruits et légumes.
La présence de centaines d’exposants et de milliers de visiteurs ouvre également de nombreuses opportunités commerciales : l’édition 2010 a attiré 354 entreprises venant de 18 pays. Et plus de 14 200 visiteurs venus de 58 pays, soit 22 % de plus qu'en 2008.
Cette nouvelle édition fait honneur à la tradition avec le congrès international consacré à la pomme organisé par le spécialiste mondial Kurt Werth en collaboration avec les organisations professionnelles du secteur fruitier du Haut Adige : un gros plan de trois jours sur les thèmes d’actualité auquel des intervenants de premier plan ont participé en 2010 devant un auditoire de 900 personnes. Un riche programme de congrès, de tables rondes et de rencontres scientifiques est actuellement en préparation.
