Claus Sendlinger

Founder Design Hotels and co-founder at Slow

In the early 1990s, Claus Sendlinger founded the flagship brand Design Hotels at a time when everyone said, "This will never work." But Claus Sendlinger demonstrated what it means to "Think differently," as later defined by Steve Jobs. Until 2018, he was CEO and president of Design Hotels; today, he has fully dedicated himself to a new project: Slowness.

Slowness is a collective of people, places, and projects that are reshaping the way we live, work, and interact. Through the holistic development, design, and programming of destinations in Portugal, Mexico, Thailand, Germany, and beyond, they create and maintain locally rooted places that offer a deeper, more conscious form of hospitality.

Claus is a recognized authority on travel and design, frequently engaged as a speaker, panelist and jury member. He was honored at the European Hotel Design Awards for outstanding contributions to the industry and in 2018 was named by Condé Nast Traveller, “one of the 48 people changing the way we travel.” In 2021, Claus was voted among the 100 top creatives worldwide by Architectural Digest. In 2023, industry-leading publication Sleeper awarded Slowness’s Reethaus with the AHEAD Award for Best Concept of the Year.
