Luca D'Angelo

Destination Manager & Executive Director Dolomiti Paganella (Trentino, Italy)

Luca is the Director of the Dolomiti Paganella Tourism Board – the first DMO (Destination Management Organization) in Italy to become a Benefit Corporation – and leads the Dolomiti Paganella Bike project.
After gaining experience in research and consulting for tsm – Trentino School of Management, where he focused on sports tourism and destination branding, he went on to direct the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori di Trento e Valsugana and the Valsugana and Lagorai Tourism Board (APT).

Today, his work revolves around one core question: How can a DMO take care of its destination, just like one would care for a complex and delicate ecosystem?

For Luca, this means transforming the very concept of tourism: from being an end to becoming a tool – a tool capable of generating well-being for the environment, for the local community, for tourism workers, for visitors, and for those who live in the area every day.

In 2019, together with an international team, he launched the Dolomiti Paganella Future Lab: a think-and-do tank to envision a more balanced, attractive, and inclusive destination. From this initiative, concrete strategies and projects have emerged – ranging from tourism flow management to sustainable mobility, from accessibility and social inclusion to landscape preservation and gender equality.

“Just as biodiversity is essential to the balance of a natural ecosystem, the variety of stories, people, and visions is vital to a thriving destination. Our job, as a DMO, is to protect and regenerate this richness every day.”
