The courage of change, for three generations We love to tread new paths. Ignaz Unterthurner learned the art of distilling from South Tyrolean peasant farmers who have always produced spirits “in secret” for personal consumption. In 1947, he and his wife Luise opened an official private distillery in Marling, a very courageous venture in South Tyrol during the politically and economically difficult postwar period. In the 1980s, their son Alois and wife Christine took it over, deciding to produce spirits from berries, rather than from the already popular traditional Williams pears. In doing so, they get-the basis for the current assortment. Now it is Stephan and his wife Renate who carry on this story, which now has three generations, open to new collaborations and imbued with enthusiasm for unusual ideas. Motivated by the ambition to always exceed the highest quality, we are expanding the variety of products with new creations, such as gin and South Tyrolean rum, so as to continue to delight connoisseurs in the future. We have also given our assortment a new structure and reworked the design, thus emphasizing our desire for development.
