Prowinter and Alpitec bring winter sports season to satisfying end

The Trentino Alto Adige region has a worldwide reputation for great skiing, cutting-edge snow equipment, and a level of know-how that makes it such an ideal location for the Alpitec and Prowinter shows. Bringing the winter sports season to a satisfying end for visitors and exhibitors alike, these winter sport and technology festivals recorded 9,300 visitors over three days, packed with workshops, award ceremonies, and opportunities to meet up, aimed at the entire industry.

"Once again, combining the two events proved a winning move, as confirmed by visitors’ surveys. As far as Alpitec is concerned, we are confident that the event has become one of the most important occasions for the Italian market. Over 70% of the national cableway operators attended the fair, including companies from the south and particularly from the field of cable installations and snow spraying, and the ANEF corporation even used the occasion to hold their annual meeting." says Reinhold Marsoner, Manager of the Bolzano Exhibition Centre. "What is more, the traditional Skiareatest award ceremony attracted the managements of major international and national ski districts, making Alpitec 2012 a success for all the companies in the industry," he concludes. A survey performed by Bolzano Exhibition Centre on a sample of 300 visitors also showed that traders came mainly from the winter sports equipment hire and maintenance sector, followed by ski and snowboard schools, ski clubs, and manufacturers and distributors of sports gear. 24.3% of respondents came from Alto Adige, 23.3% from Trentino, almost 50% from other regions of Italy (46.1%) and 6.3% came from abroad. Prowinter was also appreciated, with the traders interviewed expressing almost 100% positive opinions, ranging from "good" (51.1%) or "very good" (40.3%) to "satisfactory" (7.8%). Only 0.7% did not express a positive view. Alpitec was also appreciated, with the visitors interviewed expressing almost 98% positive opinions, ranging from "good" (39.1%) or "very good" (39.1%), to "satisfactory" (19.6%). Only 2.2% did not express a positive view. 90% of the visitors at Prowinter and 97% of visitors at Alpitec said they would be back next year. Prowinter is scheduled for 17th to 19th April 2013 on its own, while in April 2014 it will be held in conjunction with Alpitec again.

This year Prowinter was also accompanied by the Ski Touring Show, for fans of this particular realm of skiing. Around 45 exhibitors showcased specialist products for this niche sport, which - together with a full program of events dedicated to ski touring enthusiasts - proved popular with all those who attended.

The exhibitors were also very positive about the event:

Christian Thaler, General Manager of Wintersteiger Italia. "Prowinter is an essential date on our corporate calendar because it gives us the chance to meet up with all our customers and show off the full range of items in production, especially given the amount of space we need. It is also an important platform because the timing of the event, i.e. just after the season’s end, means our guests are in a quiet period and so they take the time to get a closer look at and try out the machines and tools we offer. The type of visitors attending is absolutely in line with our target market, from hire companies to ski schools, through to specialist stores. We have had opportunity to meet up with a number of Italian customers over these few days, as well as international visitors, including Swiss, Austrians, and Germans. It was a strategic event that our company simply could not miss, and undoubtedly one of the most important nationally".

Alberto Nencetti, Marketing Director at Rossignol. "The fair recorded a very good turnout for all days. A very positive sign, especially considering current times. It means the event offers everything dealers are looking for, at a time when the market is under pressure and the tendency is to optimise purchasing and improve product quality. Prowinter is unquestionably the most important platform for the Italian market, an established date on the calendar at which exhibitors can meet up with the most suitable customers for our target market, virtually the entire spectrum of customers on the Italian market".

Markus Prinoth, owner of Halti-Komperdell. "Prowinter is a key happening for our market as it offers opportunities to meet visitors from a very specific target, namely ski clubs, ski schools, retailers, and store owners. It’s an excellent occasion for placing orders for gear because, with the winter season over, there is plenty of time to spend on buying for the upcoming season. We did really well throughout the fair, gathering a significant number of leads. It is an event not to miss and undoubtedly one of the most important dates on the national trade calendar".

Alex Placker, representative of Leki Italia. Prowinter is the leading trade fair, which rounds off the winter season. It is the perfect time to formalise recent contracts, establish production orders, and meet up with customers. We recorded a very good turnout during the fair, especially from the different categories of professionals (rental, retail, ski schools, etc.), from all over Italy, but also from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia. A positive sign which reflects a general optimism, despite the economic hardships felt throughout the season - Prowinter’s best result this year”.

Prowinter 2012 showcases new trends in materials and clothing for the coming winter season

More than just high-tech and high-performance, the future is also eco-responsibility.

As every year, Prowinter (18th - 20th April, Bolzano Exhibition Centre) will be offering visitors the chance to discover the latest trends and news in equipment, clothing, and materials for the coming winter season. In this increasingly technology-oriented industry, geared towards the constant enhancement of materials, the needs of both professional sportsmen and women and mountain lovers are addressed with a focus on top-notch performance and safety, combined with greater eco-responsibility.

High-tech materials. Sophisticated clothing and gear offer advanced performance though a fusion of materials (aluminium, steel, and carbon alloys) and adaptation features that guarantee perfect usability from the moment you first put them on, in a trend that’s sweeping across all the offerings. The new Dynastar Cham 87 skis, for example, have been developed to open up freeriding to an ever larger public and with their Titanal-reinforced sandwich structure around a wooden core, they clearly embody all the know-how Dynastar has to offer. The pioneering Look ALTI 12 bindings (Look Bindings line) are made of the kind of aluminium and steel alloys usually found in the aviation industry, to guarantee the best balance of lightness and strength in downhill. The magnetic technology used in the Uvex lens take-off® line, meanwhile, means users can change lenses to suit weather and light conditions, quickly and effortlessly. Featuring a scratch-resistant outer lens that is unbreakable, super-thin, and flexible, teamed with a double, fixed, polycarbonate Polavison® technology lens, these goggles offer a polarising filter to protect eyes from glare and reflections. And finally, in the clothing sector, AGX Active Game will be launching an original line of carbon yarn underwear.

Advanced technology. Technology plays an increasingly important role in the development of state-of-the-art materials and back-up tools for mountain sports enthusiasts, as well as service providers and retailers. Uvex’s G. GL 9 goggles, incorporating recon-ready + Bluetooth technology, allow users to capture information in real time (speed, flight duration of a jump, geographical location, altitude covered, distances travelled, temperature, etc) - and view it via a full-colour LCD micro-screen. For totally conscious skiing! Era 3.0 skis from the futuristic Head line offer a fusion of three different technologies: the Allride Rocker for better control and flotation in deep snow, the Progressive Radius, which allows maximum effective edge length with 50% less angle to guarantee grip, and the Intellirise Rebound that, thanks to the patented piezoelectric Intellifiber featured, prevents vibrations at the tip and therefore greater stability. Modern ski rental organisation software is also becoming considerably high tech, with examples like the CILEAloc package developed by Cilea Informatique, which is quick, efficient, and user-friendly (offering a highly intuitive touch screen interface) and seriously speeds up management; iPhones apps are also plentiful, including Digicom IT-Solutions’ Rentmaxx Z-value, which calculates the ski binding setting.

Eco-responsibility. Materials and manufacturing techniques meet increasingly green criteria, combining high-performance characteristics and environmentally friendly production processes. Vaude’s mountain line for autumn/winter 2012-13, christened Performance Meets Ecology, which offers over 90% of clothing articles compliant with "Green Shape" requirements, aims to combine unbeatable performance with strict eco criteria. The new Look Xpress bindings, awarded the Eco Responsibility Award at ISPO 2012, feature a range of high-quality materials that significantly reduce environmental impact in comparison with conventional systems. Independent agency Quantis has measured environmental impact exactly, reporting benefits ranging from 25% to 49% for each of the six evaluation criteria used. The manufacturing procedure employed for Xpress bindings saves, for example, the equivalent of 200,000 litres of oil in terms of natural resources used and the equivalent of 200 laps of the world by car in terms of CO2 emissions. A ski pole trade-in campaign promoted by Cober through the hire shops, meanwhile, offers €2 for each pair of old poles brought in against a minimum purchase of 50 new pairs and includes collection of the used articles. This scheme helps ski hire companies renew their rental range and reduce the value of inventory for tax purposes, with no cost for shipping and disposal of the old poles.

Advanced safety features. Safety always comes first, especially for skiers and boarders chasing off-piste thrills. Gear for off-piste-loving freeriders and ski touring enthusiasts is becoming ever more sophisticated, teaming practicality with high-performance safety systems, from the ARVA Axis emitter/receiver with international frequency 457 kHz, digital and analogue operation, 3 aerials and an autonomy of 250 hours, to the X-Over 28 rucksack featuring integrated Avalanche Airbag System, which is designed to provide maximum protection in a lightweight, high-tech, compact product, as well as the space needed for a total mountain experience and all necessary accessories.

PROWINTER 2012
Prowinter and Alpitec 2012, a rich program of events dedicated to the world of the mountains

From 18 to 20 April there is a series of events to examine in depth the themes of the sector and celebrate the places, sportspeople and professionals of the world of snow

Just a few weeks are left from the start of the twelfth edition of Prowinter, the sole European b2b fair dedicated to winter sports hire and services, which is combined this year with Alpitec, the international Alpine and winter technology fair. The fair programme will also be enhanced with a rich calendar of fringe events. Workshops, film shows, meeting and award ceremonies will be held inside the exhibition areas inside the pavilions of the Bolzano Fair.

Three days entirely dedicated to the world of the mountains and winter sports that will be attended by the different categories of industry operators, from manufacturers of clothing and technical materials to rental shops, from ski services to plant experts, from ski clubs to trade organizations and the champions of the various winter sports disciplines. One important appointment is the review of the 2011/2012 season, where we will find out about new developments, previews and trends for winter 2012/2013. An increasing number of exhibitors will be taking part in the next edition of the Fair thanks to the introduction of a new platform dedicated to ski touring, which opens the door to a whole new series of specialized companies.

The first edition of Stricker Visions will open proceedings at 17.30 on 17 April at the Salewa Headquarters in Bolzano. The event has been conceived and nurtured by Linda Esser and Nina Stricker, the wife and daughter of the “crazy horse” of skiing who died recently. It is intended as a tribute to the highly innovative and original approach that always informed everything Erwin Stricker did. The first edition of the Erwin Stricker Factory of the Future adopts the motto that guided Erwin: “Good visions and crazy ideas!”. And another two exceptional men, his brothers in arms, will be talking about their own good visions & crazy ideas: Klaus Heidegger, former Austrian slalom champion and today a multi-entrepreneur, and Riccardo Corato, the former Head of Marketing and Events at Ellesse. Every year, three candidates are nominated for the Geierschnabel Prize (the prize takes its name from the hooked tip designed by Stricker), which is awarded to people who have made a significant and unusual contribution to winter sports.

Wednesday 18 April, at 11.00, the official opening ceremony takes place. From the stage of the Prowinter Forum, the curtain will be officially raised on the new edition of Prowinter and Alpitec 2012. At 12.00, the Order of Ski Instructors of South Tyrol and the Tourist Board of the Province of Bolzano will hand out the diplomas to the new skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing instructors, who from next season will be hard at it on the slopes of South Tyrol passing on the basics and secrets of the various skiing disciplines.

Thursday 19 April, at 9.00 it’s the turn of the Assemblea Nazionale ANEF – the National Meeting of Cable Car Operators – admission restricted to cable car operators. Topics of interest to industry professionals at the end of the season that has just closed will be addressed. At 10.00 there will be the traditional appointment with International SkiAreaTest, the ceremony in which the best Alpine resorts in the 2011/2012 season will be given their awards at the end of a selection process by 220 anonymous inspectors. In addition to the winners of the categories ski lifts, ski stations, restaurants, après-ski venues, ski schools, sport shops and services for children, the best ski slopes will also be assigned the international quality seal.

In the afternoon, from 14.30, the sixth edition of the Energiapura Children Series award ceremony will take place. This is the fruit of collaboration between Race Ski Magazine and Energiapura. During the ceremony, the best young Italian sportspeople in the Pupil and Youth categories will be honoured who compete for the title in the Topolino, Pinocchio and Italian Championships competitions. The prize will be the exclusive limited-edition Energiapura ski suit. At 15.00 the D.S.I. – Ski Resort Management – Mountain Professions – will hold a conference that is restricted to invited professionals (Sala “Vajolet” room). After that - at 16.30 – there’s the eleventh edition of the Gran Premio Pool Sci Italia, the prize-giving ceremony honouring the best Italian sportspeople for the 2011/2012 season, promoted by Pool Sci Italia and Race Ski Magazine. For the occasion, the national team’s finest will be coming to the Fair to receive their prestigious awards. At 16.45 the stage of the Alpitec/Prowinter Forum will welcome South Tyrol’s most successful sportspeople over the season. The prizes will be handed out by the FISI South Tyrol (the Regional Committee of the Italian Winter Sports Federation).

The theme of the last day of the Fair on Friday 20 April will be ski touring, thanks to the new Prowinter Skitouring platform that is the exhibition contribution of Prowinter/Alpitec. During the morning, the Sala “Vajolet” room will become a cinema thanks to the presentation of attractive documentaries from the archive of the Trento Filmfestival, the Trentino film festival dedicated to the world of mountaineering and the mountains. This year’s partner is FieraBolzano SpA. One of the documentaries, “Mount St. Elias” (Austria, 2009) tells the story of the attempt by three of the world’s greatest skiers to make the longest descent ever down Mount St. Elias in Alaska. The film won the Silver Gentian as the best technical and artistic contribution to the 58th TrentoFilmfestival in 2010. It will be followed by a film consisting of various images entitled “Skiing at the TrentoFilmFestival”. La Sportiva will be handing out the awards at Prowinter 2012 to the winners of the first Photocontest dedicated to ski touring. At 11.00 the names of the photographers will be revealed who took what are considered to be the most beautiful, creative and emotional shots around the central theme of ski touring. The best shots selected for the competition can be enjoyed directly at the Fair in a dedicated exhibition. At 12.00 the “gran finale” of the Prowinter Cup will take place: the circuit of ski touring competitions promoted during the 2011-2012 season by FieraBolzano in collaboration with Dolomitisottolestelle. This initiative was a great success that saw over 300 sportspersons competing for the Trophy in six events in South Tyrol, Trentino and Belluno. From circuit to circuit, at 13.00 there will be the presentation of La Grand Course, with a viewing of the video showing the stages of the ski touring circuit that comprises Europe’s most important and prestigious competitions: Adamello Ski, Patrouille des Glaciers (Switzerland), Pierra Menta (France), Tour du Rutor and Trofeo Mezzalama.

In the afternoon the world-famous ski tourer Sebastian Haag (Dynafit Team) is expected at Prowinter 2012. At 14.00 he will present his latest expedition and the documentary “Patagonia”. Subsequently, at 15.00, there will be the Dynafit Ski Touring Storyboard prize-giving. This has been organized in collaboration with Ski-alper magazine in order to create a special “storyboard” with photographs, texts and travel suggestions provided directly by the readers.

With the Skitouring platform, Prowinter will this year leave the pavilions of the Bolzano Fair thanks to an initiative run in collaboration with the German Alpin – Das Bergwelt Magazine. Lovers of ski touring can enjoy a weekend package (from Friday 20 April to Sunday 22 April) on the snow of the Val Senales valley. The events include the night-time ascent to the Bella Vista Refuge (Friday), dinner and overnight stay. The day after there is an excursion accompanied by a local Alpine guide to the place where Ötzi, the prehistoric hunter was found perfectly preserved in a glacier. The second night will be spent in a hotel in the Val Senales valley. On the Sunday the skiers can use the Salewa “Cube” climbing gym in Bolzano. Emergency assistance during the excursions will be provided by the Associazione Guide Alpine Passiria-Senales.

The Alpitec/Prowinter Forum will be the centre of the winter sports world for three days: on the stage there will be a procession of sportspeople, professionals and people working in winter sports. This again highlights the importance of the Bolzano Fair in the calendars of ski enthusiasts and in the diaries of those who earn their living from winter sports.

From 18th to 20th April 2012 Prowinter will be opening the new exhibition area dedicated to companies, specialists, champions and ski touring lovers. On Friday 20th April a rich program of side events has been scheduled both to train and inform visitors about this discipline.

Thanks to the abundant snowfall of the past few days, everyone who loves ski touring will be looking forward to skiing on the fresh snow, and they will also be looking forward to attending Prowinter 2012, the international trade show devoted to ski rental and services connected with winter sports, that in Bolzano will present the novelties and the protagonists of this ever growing discipline.
With the new platform dedicated to Prowinter Skitouring, Fiera Bolzano has further enriched the offer of Prowinter’s 12th edition with an additional exhibition area and side events.  Over the years, this trade show has earned a leading role in the field of ski rental and services. From 18th April the exhibitors of Prowinter Skitouring will present previews of the materials and equipment they plan to market for 2012-2013 winter season. Friday 20th April the authors of the three best images will be awarded on the Prowinter Forum stage.
Representatives of the specialized media certainly won’t want to miss the appointment either. The German Alpine magazine – “Das Bergwelt Magazine” has taken the initiative of organizing an exhibiting area where the quality of the materials and  retail prices of the best ski mountaineering equipment on the market will be compared. The magazine, one of the most successful in Germany with about 50.000 copies sold and 100.000 readers, has commissioned professional experts to analyze the best materials employed, and to select all the top range for ski touring.
Furthermore, thanks to a new partnership agreement between Fiera Bolzano and Trento Filmfestival, Prowinter will host the presentation of the 60th edition of the film festival dedicated to the mountains and mountaineering that will involve Bolzano for the first time. From 6th to 9th May 2012 the capital city of the Alto Adige region will be the seat of an international alpine forum with projections of the mountain film review, while during the trade show a selection of documentaries from the archive of the Trento Filmfestival will be shown.

The 2012 edition of Prowinter/Alpitec presented at ISPO in Munich

The new edition of Prowinter, the only b2b international trade show devoted to ski rental and services connected with winter sports, has been officially presented at the ISPO Munich. This year ski mountaineering will complete the products range for rentals and professionals in the snow sports industry.

Prowinter, scheduled in Bolzano from 18th to 20th April, represents a strategic appointment attested by the steady and constant evolution of the rental sector that, on the occasion of the next edition, will be further enriched with the introduction of a platform dedicated entirely to ski mountaineering. Among the important guests who took part in the presentation conference, held at the Press Center West of the Munich fair in the presence of the international press were, Gernot Rössler, President of Fiera Bolzano, Diego Amplatz, former slalom champion and today entrepreneur in the field of ski touring, Hugo Götsch, CEO at Rent and Go and President of the association ProNeve, Geraldine Coccagna, project manager of Prowinter/Alpitec, Cristian Sala, marketing & partnerships manager for the Trento Filmfestival, Nina and Linda Esser Stricker, daughter and widow of Erwin Stricker, the former ski champion that contributed to the creation of Prowinter.

Each year, through their analysis and continuous research in the reference markets, the team of Fiera Bolzano tries to capture the new trends of the sector by proposing in-depth, qualified meetings to professionals and visitors. “In the next edition of Prowinter, for the first time, –pointed out the President of Fiera Bolzano, Gernot Rössler- we will propose a focus dedicated to ski mountaineering, intended both as touring and as competition. This sport, that in recent years has been gaining more and more “friends” and fans, includes different kinds of disciplines: it can mean free-riding, ski-touring, ski-racing etc. Nowadays ski mountaineering can be considered a new tendency in every respect thus, the introduction of this platform can be considered as an answer to the preferences shown by today’s market”.

Even the rental sector, that in the last decade has been growing constantly, is characterized by an uninterrupted evolution, with diversified requests according to the different markets, as stated by Hugo Götsch, CEO of Rent and Go: “During this season, especially from the Northern countries (Germany etc.), we have noticed an ever-growing request for the new rocker skis, that allow easier skiing with easier learning curves, and for free-ride skis, preferred by younger skiers to perform jumps and spectacular evolutions on the slopes. On the whole we can affirm that our clients are more and more interested in technological, modern, high-quality ski tools. Over the years we have adapted to these requests by introducing a wide range of products, and today our clients can rent skis that are worth up to 3.000 Euros”. Mr Götsch also explained that in France the rental sector covers 70% of the ski market while in Italy it is around 35%, which is why it still has plenty of room for growth.

This year Prowinter will take place together with Alpitec, the international trade show specializing in Alpine and winter sports technology. Two events that cover an exhibition area of about 25.000 square meters with more than 400 exhibitors; 10.000 the number of professionals in the winter sector expected for this next edition. “The two fairs permit professionals to discover all the latest developments in the winter sector. In Bolzano we host producers of hardware solutions for ski areas like ski lifts, groomers, snow cannons, ticketing management, and all products for rental such as ski equipment and clothing for ski clubs, skiing instructors and ski shops”, explained Geraldine Coccagna, Project Manager of Prowinter/Alpitec.

In addition to the two fairs a rich program of side events, ceremonies, prize-awarding and in-depth forums for professionals, experts and mountain lovers. Among the new entries of this next edition is the meeting-event Stricker Visions that will be held the evening before the opening of the fair, on Tuesday 17th April, at the Salewa Headquarters in Bolzano. “It will be like a pre-opening of Prowinter/Alpitec, an event for the representatives of different sectors that take Striker’s visionary approach as a starting point, also taking into consideration multidisciplinary schemes. An appointment to meet people, exchange views and ideas, where each year experts and specialists that shared with him his nonconformist, open-minded approach in constantly looking for new solutions, will be participating”, outlined Nina Stricker.

The fair will open on Wednesday 18th April; at 11.00 am on the Prowinter Forum stage where the official opening ceremony will take place. Thursday 19th April at 10.00 the General Assembly of ANEF (National Association of ski lifts dealers), at 12.00  the International Skiareatest will award the best Alpine ski resorts of the 2011-2012 season, at 15.00 the prize-giving ceremony to celebrate young athletes –in collaboration with Energiapura and Race Ski Magazine-, at 16.00 the POOL Sci Italia will award the best athletes of the Italian National Team, and later on the Fisi Alto Adige will honor the best athletes of the World Cup and European Cup from Alto Adige.

On Friday 20th April during the side events devoted to ski mountaineering: in collaboration with Dolomitisottolestelle the winners of the Prowinter Cup will be awarded, La Sportiva will award prizes to the winners of the ski mountaineering photo contest, the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) will meet its instructors, the AVS (Alpine Club of Alto Adige) will set up a test area to demonstrate their  avalanche monitoring system, Trento Filmfestival will present the next edition of the event and, during the Ski Touring Focus, will set up an area dedicated to the projection of documentaries on the topic of ski mountaineering.

PROWINTER 2012

“Bude to takový pre-opening veletrhu Prowinter/Alpitec.

Preko stanovitne analize in raziskovanja novitet z ozirom na tržišče,  sejem v Bolzanu vsako leto poskuša otkriti nove tendence sektorja in jih potem ponuditi operaterjem sektorja in svojim obiskovalcem.

“To bo neke vrste pred-odpiranje razstave Prowinter/Alpitec-a.

V četrtek 19. aprila ob 10.00 uri je predvidena uradna generalna skupščina ANEF (Nacionalno trgovsko društvo žičnic), ob 12.00 uri Mednarodno nagrajevanje Skiareatest najkvalitetnejših smučišč v alpskem območju sezone od leta 2011 do leta 2012, ob 15.00 uri bo nagrajevanje mladih športnikov v sodelovanju z Energiapura in Race Magazina, ob 16.30 uri bo družba POOL Sci Italija nagradila najboljše športnike italijanske nacionalne reprezentance, nato bo družba Fisi Alto Adige nagradila najboljše južno tirolske športnike s svetovnim in evropskim pokalom.

V petek 20. aprila bodo na programu dogodki posvečeni turno smučanju in bodo v sodelovanju z Dolomitisottolestelle nagrajeni zmagovalci Pokala Prowinter. Družba »La Sportiva« bo nagradila zmagovalce fotografskega natečaja turno smučanja, CAI se bo srečal s svojimi inštruktorji, AVS (Alpski Južno tirolskih Klub) bo realiziral preizkuševalno področje kontrole plazov, Trento Film festival bo predstavil sledečo izdajo dogodkov in  območju Focus Ski Touringa bo pripravljen prostor namenjen dokumentarnim filmom s tematiko turno smučanja.

PROWINTER 2012

Podczas konferencji prasowej, zorganizowanej w centrum prasowym West centrum targowego w Monachium, przed przedstawicielami międzynarodowej prasy wystąpili: Gernot Rössler, prezes Targów w Bolzano, Diego Amplatz, były mistrz narciarstwa alpejskiego a obecnie przedsiębiorca w sektorze skialpinizmu, Hugo Götsch, prezes Rent and Go i prezes organizacji ProNeve, Geraldine Coccagna zarządzająca projektem Prowinter/Alpitec, Cristian Sala, odpowiedzialny za marketing & partnership Trento Filmfestival, Nina e Linda Esser Stricker, córka i żona Erwina Strickera.

PROWINTER 2012

“Konec konců - tvrdil Stricker, nazývaný “bláznivý kůň” -, velká část lyžařů používá své lyžařské vybavení relativně málo a pouze omezený počet dnů vzhledem k investici, přičemž si musí zajistit i převoz a také uskladnění daného vybavení v době, kdy není používáno.”
V případě uvědomělé a důvěryhodné klientely má půjčovna k dispozici i nejnovější trendové vybavení.

V okviru predstavljenih storitev zimskih centrov najem prevzema vse bolj pomembno vlogo.

V letu 1993.

Winter rental, a trend in continual evolution

Among the services offered by ski resorts, equipment rental is becoming of fundamental importance, and today this high quality offer is not longer exclusively confined to shops specializing in sports equipment, but involves all the many different components involved in winter sports, such as ski schools, hotels and cableway systems.

In 1993 Erwin Striker, a champion skier who has now  become a creative manager in the field of winter sports, launched a challenge to the entire sector which was initially viewed with much skepticism.  He wanted to transform the idea of equipment rental from that of a makeshift solution to a qualified service which could become an advantage for its clients.  “After all – affirms Striker, nicknamed “Crazy Horse” -, most skiers use their equipment relatively little, especially if we take into consideration the cost, and then they have to carry it with them when they need it, and store it during the long summer months when it is totally useless to them”.

Now, less than twenty years after this “sensible” revolution was launched – and after having overcome the many obstacles tied to the idea of status symbol – investments in rental take up 50% of the total world market production of ski equipment.

The importance of this service in today’s world goes hand in hand with that of the professional European b2b trade fair Prowinter, the only one of its kind dedicated to rental and other services connected with winter sports.

With the evolution of the relationship between supply and demand, the rental of skis and ski boots (also sleds, snowshoes, etc.) has revealed a series of other advantages which are becoming more and more evident in time.  In fact, it is now  possible to put together many “all inclusive” packages to satisfy the needs of a growing clientele which often may have a very limited baggage allowance, depending on the means of transport used to reach their destination.  Besides offering more convenience to customers, this kind of solution is often more economical, too.  For fashion conscious clients, another important advantage is the possibility using the latest and trendiest equipment available on the market.  Manufacturers have found out that this is an excellent way to promote their products, especially the top market ones.

The date to remember for Prowinter is 18th to 20th April 2012, where you’ll have the opportunity to come into contact with all the sectors related to equipment rental – in fact, 80% of the exhibitors offer related products or services - from clothing and accessories to furnishings and specialized machinery.

Prowinter and Alpitec together in Bolzano in 2012

The Prowinter Trade Fair will take place together with Alpitec, the biennial exhibition dedicated to winter sports technology, from 18th to 20th April

The world of winter sports, and in particular the technological sector dedicated to high altitudes is continually evolving.  With the 12th edition of Prowinter and the 7th of Alpitec, from 18th to 20th April, Fiera Bolzano once again confirms this essential point of reference for all the novelties and new trends of the sector.  Year after year, both of these trade fairs have successfully integrated their offer with new productive divisions, creating strategic partnerships between many international associations and agencies and  introducing moments of detailed study dedicated to these innovations.  This edition’s topic is Alpine skiing, and is dedicated to all athletes, experts and lovers of this exclusive sport which, in recent years, has grown more and more popular.  Prowinter will also offer its visitors various events, encounters and awards such as the International Skiareatest Award, to be held  on Thursday 19th April, during which the best Alpine ski stations of the 2011-2012 season will be selected.
Over the years, Prowinter has continued to grow, with an increase in visitors from 3,200 in 2001 to 5,800 in 2011.  During its previous edition, 24 different countries from all over the world, (Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, China, Japan and the USA) were represented.  The presence of an extraordinary number of exhibitors also confirms the importance of Prowinter, 246 businesses from 15 different nations.  Prowinter has become a showcase for the presentation of new products and services, a place to compare and exchange new ideas, and an opportunity for everyone involved in the sector to create contacts and establish important business agreements in relation to rental, sales points, ski schools, clubs, etc.
“For many years now, rental has been a priority for Prowinter- says Fiera Bolzano’s Director, Reinhold Marsoner-.  Equipment rental is not only useful for those who want to spend one or two weeks skiing in the mountains, but is also becoming popular with people who practice  other mountain sports, especially in the Alpine skiing sector.  Rental offers many advantages, such as the possibility of using  the latest equipment available on the market.  Years ago, my unforgettable friend Erwin Stricker foresaw this increase in the use of rental equipment, and this trend can certainly not be ignored, especially by a man in my position”.
During its next edition, Prowinter will launch another new proposal, in line with the tendencies of today’s market, by introducing a platform dedicated entirely to Alpine skiing, the winter sport which has registered the greatest increase in popularity in recent years. “More and more traditional skiers are switching over to Alpine skiing, and even people who have never skied are becoming familiar with mountain sports through this discipline or that of snowshoeing” affirms Reinhold Marsoner.  In Europe there are an estimated 5 million Alpine skiers, with 100,00 competitive athletes.
The date to remember for Prowinter, Alpitec and  the inauguration of the new Alpine ski showcase in Bolzano, is 18th to 20th April 2012,  to learn all there is to know about new materials, technologies and strategies for the future of winter sports.

PROWINTER 2012
Prowinter 2012: Focus on Ski Touring

Just like snowshoeing, ski touring is developing more and more from being a niche sport to a sport for the masses.  For this reason, there will be a new event and exhibition area at “Prowinter” with the discipline of ski touring.  From April 18 to 20, 2012, “Prowinter”, the International Tradeshow for Rentals and Services for Winter Sports will once again take place along with “Alpitec”, the International Tradeshow for Mountain and Winter Technologies.

The Bolzano/Bozen Exhibition Center has sounded out whether the area of ski touring could be interesting for a tradeshow such as “Prowinter”.  The proposal to integrate ski touring into the tradeshow held in Bolzano was very well received at, among other places, a meeting with representatives of the international association ISMF (the International Ski Mountaineering Federation), the national association FISI, and representatives of the Italian trade press.  Italy’s ski touring athletes are among the best in the world, and now a new platform for this sport will come into existence at “Prowinter” in Bolzano.  A meeting point for professionals and amateurs in this discipline will be created with workshops, film presentations, and the awarding of prizes. They will be able to exchange experiences there, inform themselves about new materials and technologies, and get into direct contact with manufacturers.
“Prowinter” has been profiled as the only international business-to-business platform for service providers in winter sports.  It is a standing appointment for the equipment market in Italy, in which the ski touring sector is gaining a greater and greater foothold.  In 2012, “Prowinter” will be enriched by this topical focus, and along with “Alpitec”, it will be the ideal platform for information about new innovations both in the technical sphere and with sporting trends.

A partnership between TrentoFilmFestival and Fiera Bolzano Spa

A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TRENTOFILMFESTIVAL AND FIERA BOLZANO SPA

Two excellences in the world of mountains inaugurate a season of cooperation
The project will be presented on Monday 30 January during the Prowinter 2012 press conference at the ISPO in Munich, Germany

TRENTO. TrentoFilmfestival and Fiera Bolzano Spa, two entities in the Alps, each a leader in its respective cultural and economic field, will begin a cooperation and partnership during the Prowinter 2012 event.
For almost sixty years Fiera Bolzano Spa has been promoting the regional economy and its excellences by hosting the business firms of the German speaking world of north Europe and those of the Italian language of the Mediterranean area on the occasion of the events organized in Bolzano’s trade fair district.

For the last sixty years TrentoFilmfestival has been the international event of greatest prestige dedicated to the culture of mountains and mountaineering. Cinema and literature, meetings with mountaineering celebrities and symbolic figures of adventure and multiform aspects of the mountains are the essence of the Festival. The many events, meetings, exhibitions and shows, presented in the Festival since 1952, have brought international fame to the City of Trento and also to the City of Bolzano that, in 1998, joined the two TrentoFilmfestival founder members, the Municipality of Trento and the Italian Alpine Club.

Within the variegated world of the mountain economy, the well-established Fiera Bolzano SpA trade fair has always presented subjects connected with winter sports, free time and mountain technologies and therefore offers an opportunity to bring the two entities together.

The Prowinter 2012 event, with the new Focus Ski Touring entirely dedicated to this rapidly growing niche, and the Free Time Fair will be the first two moments consolidating the cooperation between Fiera Bolzano Spa and TrentoFilmfestival.

The programme of Prowinter 2012 (18 - 20 April) includes an official presentation of the 60th TrentoFilmfestival and the screening of some ski mountaineering documentary films from the TrentoFilmfestival library in a special area of the Focus Ski Touring section.

The following week, on the occasion of the Free Time Fair (28 April - 1 May) some spectacular mountain, mountaineering and other extreme sports documentary films from the TrentoFilmfestival library will be shown in a projection room.

On 30 January the new partnership has been presented in the Prowinter 2012 press conference at ISPO in Munich, Germany, the most important international trade fair of sporting goods and fashions.
An alliance therefore that aims to strengthen the two entities and add value to their events.

World Premiere: “snowTOUR South Tyrol” kicks off this December

Italy’s most northerly province reveals its winter sports technology expertise

Come and experience winter sports technology, ski resort management and piste preparation, live and in colour! This is now on offer with the first snowTOUR from 15 to 17 December 2010.  Trade journalists will be able to gain insight into products, solutions and systems which set technological benchmarks, by joining a sightseeing tour in the South Tyrol ski areas of Carezza/Karersee, Kronplatz and Gardena/Gröden – and all this will be accomplished within the short space of just three days.

The World Premiere of snowTOUR South Tyrol has been set up exclusively for journalists who specialise in the winter sports sector – and this represents an outstanding opportunity for them to acquaint themselves personally with this innovative and unique concept for disseminating information about the latest ideas in snow and winter sports technology as well as ski resort management, and to report on this after the event.  It is also the intention that this collaborative partnership with the specialist media will lead to snowTOUR South Tyrol becoming known about throughout the world.  Trade journalists will not incur any costs for participating in the snowTOUR, apart from their own travel to and from Bolzano/Bozen.

After this first event for winter sports journalists, several more snowTOURs have been planned which are aimed at ski resort operators, resort managers, trade experts and investors.  Using examples drawn from real life, the snowTOURs will give an insight into the knowledge and expertise which lie behind South Tyrol’s leading snow and winter sports technologies.  They will additionally facilitate an exchange of ideas with entrepreneurs and, wherever possible, will illustrate South Tyrol expertise with concrete examples.

snowTOUR South Tyrol is promoted by TIS innovation park in collaboration with the following partner organisations: Export Organisation South Tyrol (EOS), Business Location South Tyrol (BLS), South Tyrol Marketing Company (SMG), Bolzano Trade Fair and the ProNeve Expert Network.

PROWINTER 2011
South Tyrol as the Winter Sports Hub

With the three tradeshows “Alpitec”, “Alpitec China”, and “Prowinter” covering the areas of mountain and winter technologies as well as winter sports rentals and services, the Bolzano/Bozen Exhibition Center in South Tyrol, Italy has established itself as the country’s number one meeting point in the sector and a 360°platform for the entire winter sports sector.

In April of this year, as is always the case in even-numbered years, “Prowinter”, the International Tradeshow for Rentals and Services for Winter Sports took place along with “Alpitec”, the International Tradeshow for Mountain and Winter Technologies.  Over the course of three days, this double tradeshow with a total of 370 exhibitors from fifteen countries drew 9,300 visitors from the sector from twenty-four different nations.  The successful double event “Alpitec/Prowinter” is held in the heart of the Alps and signifies a successful symbiosis in the sector, since with mountain and winter technologies along with rentals and services for winter sports, two closely related areas are united.  The exhibition areas of “Alpitec” range from ski slope and cross country ski trail equipment to snowmaking and ski lift facilities to guest services, personnel equipment, winter service vehicles, safety, and rescue.  Those of “Prowinter”, on the other hand,  comprise equipment and accessories for winter sports, technical clothing for skiing schools and ski clubs, machines and furnishings for ski rentals and equipment, services, and safety provisions for winter ski areas, from flex poles to ski grinding machines to cashier systems.
From April 13 to 15, 2011, “Prowinter” will once again take place by itself, having been profiled as the only international business-to-business platform for service providers in winter sports.  This tradeshow in Bolzano is the ideal platform for the exchange of ideas and experience as well as the initiation of new contacts in the areas of business, services, commerce, and sports.  In the accompanying events of “Prowinter”, the challenges of the sector are discussed, hot topics are debated, and possible approaches are sought for solutions to delicate tasks.
While Europe is seeing itself confronted with sinking numbers of winter sports enthusiasts, the interest in skiing sports is booming in China.  With the cooperation of the Munich International Trade Fairs, the double tradeshow “ispo china/Alpitec China” was launched in 2009 in order to meet the needs of the up-and-coming Asian market in the winter sports sector.
“The 2010 edition of ispo china/Alpitec China took place from March 4 to 6 and was a great success for us,” said Gernot Rössler, president of Fiera Bolzano S.p.A./Messe Bozen AG, who was on site along with the project team.  “Along with Alpitec China, we were able to increase both the number of exhibitors and the exhibition space.  We are particularly proud of the high level of participation on the part of Chinese exhibitors, who have shown us that the time has arrived for technological know-how in the winter sports sector. The product presentation was rounded out by practice-related information events, such as China’s first Ski Man course.”
The comprehensive accompanying events with specialized conferences such as the Asia Pacific Snow Conference (APSC) and other events in conjunction with this double tradeshow make it one of the most important platforms for communications and networking for the winter sports sector in the Asian market.  With a considerable increase in visitors of 21% with respect to the previous year, “ispo china/Alpitec China” was successful in making a clear breakthrough.  In 2011, this double tradeshow will take place from February 23 to 25 in the new exhibition center of the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing.

PROWINTER 2011
Internationality: excellent prospects for „Prowinter 2011“

The new 2010/2011 season has opened with a fresh, soft layer of powder that has blanketed the peaks of the Alps these past few weeks. In just a few days Pool Italia and the World Cup season will be in full swing as the ski world gears up to hit the slopes, all the while the „Prowinter“ exhibition at the Bolzano Fair will be being organized and set into action on a grand scale. The international exhibition for pro athletes, winter rentals and services is set to take place from the 13 to the 15 April 2011 in Bolzano (South Tyrol/Italy).

„Prowinter“ has once again reaffirmed its partnership with the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Gardena (Saslong Classic) for the 43rd edition of the show this year. The famous event, which will feature a World Cup Super G and a downhill race (17 and 18 December, 2010) will take place alongside many other events that will lend to creating a festive spirit with the local community as well as the participating athletes and a full crowd. Saslong Classic has long contributed to the fame of South Tyrol, the nerve center for winter sports, just as „Prowinter“ has also long promoted the development of this sector and its various business aspects.

Thanks to a continual commitment to organizing important events and its strategic location, South Tyrol proves to be a fruitful platform for contacts between Italian businesses and those beyond the Alps.
Gian Franco Kasper, President of the International Ski Federation (FIS) also agrees with this and has lent his thoughts on this: “The specialized „Prowinter“ fair is an ideal launching pad which allows ideas, information and experiences to be exchanged and shared between those within the sector, while at the same time facilitating agents within the sector to establish new contacts and make business deals in the commercial and sports sector. The numerous awards conferred to athletes convey emotions and give a sense of honor to their performances throughout the winter. Various international level sports events take place in South Tyrol, especially those for winter sports. Due to this very reason Bolzano is the ideal place for this specialized exhibition, „Prowinter“. The FIS wishes all its participants to have a good and successful exhibition”. The International Ski Federation will once again show and strengthen its support at „Prowinter 2011“ with the awarding of the FIS OC Award, which will allow them to bring the to the forefront the true value of these two shows within the exhibition world for sectors specialized in technology and winter sports.

The eleventh edition of „Prowinter“ will be held at the Bolzano Fair at the end of the winter season to once again confirm its position as a network leader in the sports industry on a national and international level. From 13 to 15 April, 2011 Bolzano Fair expects to have over 250 exhibitors visiting from over 15 different countries to participate in the fair and present their latest products to an international audience.
